DCP celebrates another year of excellence

The Dental Care Professionals Conference (DCP) was held this year at DMS Whittington. It celebrated another year of dental excellence and outreach by the personnel working within Defence.

Various workshops and talks were held over the day to help improve overall knowledge and reflect on the achievements of personnel.

Sgt A. Gooding-Edghill led a mental fitness workshop which was greeted with great interest and reflection on how mental health not only affects work experience but also overall health.

After, medical emergencies were led by Margaret Neary. A necessity for work at home and overseas.

One of the most fascinating talks of the day was about the RN Pacific Partnership with DN J. Gibbins.

This included heartwarming stories of their travels to numerous different places, supporting local care professionals and even the addition of a new canine friend.

The Mouth Cancer update was given by Surg Lt Cdr T Pepper. Mouth cancer has continuously risen over the past decade.

Finally, the day was brought to a close with the Oral Health Awards. Speaking on the day and the oral health awards , Surg Lt Cdr (D) Jennifer Paterson, Deputy Senior Dental Officer HMS Drake: “It was fantastic to see so many of our DCPs both in person and online.

“This year everyone enjoyed some core topics from external presenters as well as some more niche presentations focusing on military dentistry.  Not only is the conference a great opportunity for CPD, but also lovely to recognise those who have gone above and beyond in terms of oral health promotion and prevention with the Oral Health Awards. We are grateful for the support from Amanda and the team at the Oral Health Foundation for their support with the Oral Health Awards and the DCP conference.”

As another year comes to a close, the Oral Health Foundation hopes that this support will continue in the future with more knowledge and help being given to those in need.
